Ask the Experts: Building the Case for Plain Language in Organizations

Join a panel of experts who will answer your questions about securing buy-in across an organization for implementing plain language. Get practical advice from people who have successfully advocated for plain language in a variety of organizations. You can submit your questions when you register for the event. 

Strategic plan member discussion: Right after the Ask the Experts session ends, members of the PLAIN board of directors will invite attendees to stay online to discuss the new strategic plan for PLAIN, which will take effect in 2025. Our panel:  

Louise Stait, Pushing the Pen (UK): Louise Stait is Head of Corporate Affairs for one of England’s 42 statutory NHS (National Health Service) Integrated Care Boards. She sees Plain Language as integral to good governance and effective service delivery. Louise is currently studying an MSc in Systems Thinking. Her specific research interest is in ways to improve the quality of corporate documents such as board papers, risk registers, policies and so on, within large, complex public sector organisations. Louise also holds masters degrees in Literature, Culture and Modernity; and Public Administration.

Pushing the Pen is Louise’s “passion project” outside of work, focusing on ideas and approaches to drive up the standards of writing within public sector organisations.

Mary Jane Nirdlinger, Town of Chapel Hill (USA): Mary Jane Nirdlinger is the Deputy Town Manager in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She’s also worked for county government, the U.S. Coast Guard, the private sector, and UNC-Chapel Hill, always focused on making great places to live and work.  

Advocating for Plain Language in local government brings together her passions for writing and public service. She’s the proud mother of two young adults and enjoys reading, sewing, and being outside. Join Mary Jane on LinkedIn. 

 

 

Chantale Audet, Autrement dit (Canada): Chantale Audet is a medical anthropologist. She is the co-founder of Autrement dit, a plain language consultancy firm based in Quebec, Canada. Many of Autrement dit’s projects relate to health care, the environment, and public health, and aim to promote health literacy. Recently, Autrement dit has won Clearmark Awards for various projects. Chantale previously worked in public health, where she was editor-in-chief of a baby guide called From Tiny Tot to Toddler. Join Chantale on LinkedIn.
