In 2016, PLAIN took over the Plain Language Supporters group on LinkedIn.
1. What is the PLAIN LinkedIn group?
It’s the largest international forum dedicated to plain language, with over 18,000 members from more than 100 countries.
2. Do I have to be a member of PLAIN to join?
Being a member of the Plain Language Association International (PLAIN) has many benefits. But you don’t have to join PLAIN to be a member of the PLAIN LinkedIn group.
PLAIN is committed to continuing the group as a completely open forum.
3. How do I join the PLAIN group on LinkedIn?
Just sign in to your LinkedIn account and go to the PLAIN group page. The Group Manager will review your request within 2 business days.
4. What happens when you approve my membership request?
Once the PLAIN Group Manager approves your request to join, you become an active group member.
For the first 3 days of your membership, all of your posts will be “pending” and are first reviewed by the Group Manager. The review period lets us check that your posts support the forum’s rules and goals.
Once the 3-day period ends, you’re free to post any discussion or comment without review.
5. Why would you deny a membership request?
When we review membership requests, we rely on your LinkedIn profile to help us understand your professional interest in the PLAIN group. Our aim is to keep the group’s focus on plain language. The forum isn’t a place for people to market their businesses.
6. Can I request to become a member more than once?
Yes. You can apply again if we denied your first request because you didn’t respond to our message asking why you’re interested in the group.
The Group Manager will review your request again, based on our membership guidelines.
7. What should I post on the forum?
We encourage members to post news about plain language, health literacy, user experience and design, related training opportunities, and research.
We look forward to hearing from you in discussions and posts!
